I was born in Catania, Italy, on May 20, 1960.

In 1985, after the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, I opened a laboratory where I experienced various decorative techniques, being keen to glass matter.

The evolution of my artistic search is concentrated on the perception of both dimension and time, within the space. Artistic inspiration and design creativity come together within the endless big as skies and sees, and endless little as the components of my jewels.

My GIOIELLI DEL MARE are artistic micro-compositions to be wear; the asymmetrical nature of the components make them unique and unrepeatable, bound together with copper, tin, or silver.

My ACQUARELLI & LED based production started in 2012 as the latest experimental work I have developed on glass throughout the last thirty years.

My artistic ACQUARELLI & LED based production started in 2012 as the latest experimental work I have developed on glass through out the last thirty years. I figured out that glass was the most feasible material to meet my artistic skills.

After cutting and assembling the glass using lead and stained glass enriched by melted copper, plus organic and inorganic materials, I am now able to paint in the same way of paper. Finally, light is added from behind with led.

My vision is focused on horizontal skies, Sicilian landscapes, hills and mountains of the hinterland and, of course, the sea…

My soul is actually offering gifts of space and colors to my inside emotions. The perception is getting more and more sensual and intimate, leading me to a deeper understanding of those emotions that I am able to visualize through my work.

I have always felt entranced by the sky. I am continuously in deep contemplation with it. The sky is in fact constantly feeding my soul and, for all these reasons, it is the prevailing subject of my paintings on glass.

I indeed evaluate the type of light required for each of my paintings by figuring out proper quality, quantity and impact. Every component of my work deserves specific attention as far as the lighting for each individual piece is concerned.

Light and led are important ingredients of the recipe my work is based on, more than just one color for my palette.

My glass paintings are offering and receiving light at the same time, transforming empty walls into open windows.

The perception of both dimension and time, within the space, changes. Artistic inspiration and design creativity come together. Art becomes functional and the objects become art.

Glass and led combined intensely broaden the perception, linking together both eyes and heart, and heart and soul.

Emanuela uses traditional techniques: Medieval style plumbing, Tiffany decoration style, Painting, Sandblasting and her own innovative techniques. With both these techniques, she is able to combine glass with any sort of material: metals, terracotta, fossils, and volcanic ashes.

Artistic glass

The creation and restoration of artistic stained glass are the first activities of Emanuela Di Bella that interprets the needs of the customer sensibly.

Thanks to the various techniques of glass art, it creates highly suggestive art glasses, one of which is lead glass, the technique of bonding flat glass pieces with welded lead profiles is very ancient and dates back to the Middle Ages. With the sophisticated technique of blowing the glass, cutting the base and neck of the big bubble obtained by blowing the air with the barrel in the glass that became soft in the blast furnace, quite small and small plates, very different from the modern ones obtained. That is why older windows have few colors and are made up of many pieces.

Still today many churches require new or new windows, or the restoration of the more or less ancient ones. The technique has changed little. An enamel cutter is used, which has a toothed toe in a hard alloy almost like a roller-shaped diamond rather than the sharp tip of an iron, so that the tiles are almost perfect to the edges and not cut into pieces. In addition, the range of colors and tones of modern glass is huge and allows the designer a nearly pictorial representation of the projects.

Today, the designer and the performer of stained glass are very much spent on the same person, while before they were two distinct figures. There was the painter who painted and painted the subject and a group of glass holders who performed it, probably with a glacial master who led them.

Over 1000 years of stained glass history have followed many styles, according to the demand, first only ecclesial then lay and bourgeois, the taste of the era, the personality of the designer painter and the country.

At the end of the 19th century Louis Comfort Tiffany, New York, invented a new way to tie the glass by replacing the lead profile with a thin copper ribbon wrapped around the perimeter of the glassy tile and then loosened tin. This technique has allowed a more solid, light and ductile structure, and the convexity of the glazing. A real revolution! Today is the most widespread technique, especially in private homes and public places, especially after the discovery that lead is toxic to the touch and its inhaled fumes cause saturation.
